Hi, I’m Phil Clark, founder of a company called Embedded IT Limited. We do technology procurement consultancy, which sounds really interesting… and actually is.
I wanted to make a short series of videos about what I do for a living, partly because I think it’ll help people understand what technology procurement actually means - it’s quite a niche area - and partly because, well, I wanted an excuse to get out on a boat.
So that’s what we’ve done.
Talking tech from the Solent
We’ve combined the two things: I’m out on a boat, chatting about technology procurement. It’s sunny, there’s a bit of wind, and probably quite a lot of background noise from the engine and the waves, but hopefully you can still hear me.
To be honest, I’m really happy. This is my idea of a good day - talking about something I love, while driving a boat around the Solent.
What the series is about
The plan is to do a few short clips - about 10 to 15 minutes each - where I talk through different aspects of technology procurement.
We’ll start simple, with “what is technology?” Because if you’re in procurement but new to the tech category, it’s good to get a sense of what it actually covers. Then we’ll move into some of the more detailed stuff: things like cloud, sustainability, and how those ideas fit into technology procurement.
Why I’m doing this
I think there’s a real gap in understanding when it comes to technology procurement - it’s one of those areas people know exists, but not many people really know how it works or what makes it different from buying anything else.
So hopefully, these videos (and now, these blogs) will give you a bit of insight into what I do, and maybe make the world of tech procurement feel a bit less mysterious.
Enjoy the ride
That’s it for now - I’m off to enjoy the rest of the afternoon on the water. I’ll be sharing more short videos soon, each one covering a different side of technology procurement.
If you’ve got feedback or there’s something you’d like me to talk about, let me know. Hope you enjoy it as much as I’m enjoying filming them!
