The Purpose

There is a lot of focus in the industry today on sustainability, especially in the context of a business’s performance and approach to reducing their environmental impact. Technology companies are not immune from this focus, and if anything, have a significant role to play in leveraging the benefits of technology to drive more environmentally friendly behaviour. However, technology as an industry has also caused a lot of environmental impact, with disposable technology, and excessive power consumption.

Even in this context, it is very difficult to establish how focussed an IT company is on the environment. With so many different technology business models and different technology approaches the industry lacks a consistent method of assessing whether a technology supplier respects the environment as part of its day to day business.
 

What is the Sustainability Index?

 Embedded IT have partnered with Green Element to design a simple method of asking IT Suppliers how sustainable they are. Gathering information regarding their general business approach, product selection, design methods and where appropriate, power and cooling impacts, the “Embedded Sustainability Index” provides a score for a supplier indicating their environmental awareness and adoption of best practice. Each supplier who has participated in the process receives a certificated report which provides an A-G rating, some detailed review points of their business approach and a report outlining suggested actions to improve on the supplier’s environmental approach. 

This report is designed to be able to be shared with technology buyers, giving some reassurance of the environmental approach to their technology supply chain. Whereas not a complete replacement of full carbon assessment detailed study, it provides an indication of the supplier’s capabilities regarding the environment and demonstrates that they feel this is a key differentiator within the technology marketplace.

The report is designed to assess all channel partners (consultants, developers, managed service providers, Cloud service providers, hardware or software resellers) and assess the supplier’s approach across all of these channel business models.

How it works

  1. Embedded will issue a questionnaire to ask about a supplier’s business model, key environmental performance criteria and other inputs to the review process
  2. These inputs and evidences will then be reviewed during an hour consultation held with a Green Element consultant to discuss environmental performance
  3. A final report will be created, providing a score of environmental performance, and a breakdown of key suggested improvement actions going forward
  4. This report will be issued in PDF format to the supplier for sharing with prospective clients as part of their sales and marketing processes

Pricing for Services

Embedded IT offer two main service offerings:

  • Consultancy – advisory and execution services to assist Clients, Channel Partners and Vendors work together
  • Embedded Directory – an online tool that matches Clients to Channel Partners based on a range of attributes such as capabilities, location, industry, company size etc.
  • Embedded Verified - a specific service for subscribers of the Directory that verifies the accuracy of their entry on the site at a point in time

 

Consultancy

Embedded IT services are available on a Fixed Price or Time and Materials basis, dependent on the scope and size of the project. Embedded Directory

The Embedded Directory is free for Clients to search on, and can be used to connect to potential suppliers for no charge subject to registration. The Embedded Directory does charge a fee for Channel Partners and Vendors to list their business details, which comprise an Annual or Monthly Subscription Fee plus a commission based on the final contracted revenues between Client and Channel Partner / Vendor. Note : Subscription levels do not influence the matching process to ensure independence. All subscribers are treated equally in the matching of their business to the clients requirement regardless of committed subscription.

Pricing Terms and Conditions

  • Pricing is paid by debit or credit card, via a Direct Debit process managed online.  Card details will be entered at the point of registration
  • From time to time, Embedded may offer discounted pricing to incentivise the onboarding of specific Suppliers to satisfy a particular client need.  Details of these discounts will be made under specific conditions and may not apply universally to all suppliers.
  • Embedded reserve the right to vary these prices at its discretion from time to time, such variations to take effect in the period after the Suppliers Contract Term
  • Unless otherwise expressly stated, all sums payable under this agreement are exclusive of any Value Added Tax or other applicable sales tax (if any).
  • The Supplier shall pay the Subscription Fee by electronic transfer or payment card managed online through the Directory service.
  • The Supplier shall, as soon as is reasonably practicable and in any event within thirty days of receipt of an invoice, pay the Commission Fee to Embedded, which shall apply to all revenues (including VAT) invoiced by the Supplier to the Client related to the project
  • For Up-Front Charges, Embedded shall invoice its Agreed Commission Fee on notification of award from the Awarded Supplier
  • For Ongoing Charges, Embedded shall invoice its Agreed Commission Fee in line with the payment schedule agreed between the Supplier and Client,
  • For Variable Charges, the Supplier shall notify Embedded in line with its payment schedule the level at which those charges have been charged by the Supplier to the Client, and Embedded will invoice its Agreed Commission Fee as a calculation of the Variable Charge levied.
  • Any invoice remaining unpaid for more than thirty (30) days from receipt shall accrue interest at a rate of 8% above the base rate of HSBC Bank in the UK
  • In the event of any good faith dispute with regard to a portion of an invoice, the undisputed portion shall be paid as provided in this Agreement.

 

 

Embedded Verified

For subscribers to the Embedded Directory, our consultants offer a service where they review a supplier for accuracy of entry, as well as financial standing and accreditations, to produce an independent report verifying the supplier as accurately represented on the site.  This report is provided to the supplier for them to forward onto prospective Clients when they enquire.   The cost of an Embedded Verified engagement is £500 +VAT, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. FAQ

What is Embedded Directory?

The Embedded Directory is a matching site for Clients and IT / Telecoms Suppliers. It invites clients to provide some headline attributes of their business, and matches suppliers of specific technology to these clients based on these attributes.

Will my email data be used to spam me after I’ve registered?

Absolutely not. Email contact detail and company profile information is merely stored to allow the matching process, and email correspondence relating to your project, to be performed. There is a monthly newsletter to both Clients and Suppliers giving an update on trends within the site / industry, and that’s it. None of these details will be sold for marketing purposes to third parties, nor can people pay for contact detail access for specific campaigns.

How much does the Directory service cost me?

I can’t find the technology I want…

Because of the breadth of technology available, not every combination and permutation of ways of describing a specific solution can be catered for. When you search for something and it returns no suppliers however, Embedded as a company are notified and will find suppliers / technologies to match that need as quickly as they can (usually within a few days). If you want to be notified when this technology / supplier is boarded, drop an email using the feedback button and we’ll let you know.

None of the suppliers look like what I am after…

Embedded pride themselves on their network of UK IT and Telecoms Suppliers, however if you cannot find what you are looking for please get in touch and we will help you find an appropriate supplier, based on your specific requirements.

What is the plan for Embedded Directory over time?

The Directory originally launched at the end of 2017, but has been refreshed and re-launched in 2019.  We have a roadmap of functionality in plan for the coming years, including helping clients with their Contract Management needs, better supplier information and verification, customer/supplier reviews and other aspects. If you have any specific needs / wishes for the roadmap, please let us know and we’ll put it on the list.

Where are the legal terms and conditions I’m signing up to?

All of the legal terms for Clients/Buyers and Suppliers are covered by our User Services Agreement, and these are the terms you are signing up to as part of this process. They are relatively standard terms, and apply to all transactions on the site without exception – this is the only way the Directory can maintain its independence. 

I need a bit more than just finding a Supplier…

Embedded IT are a management consulting company that provides IT strategy and procurement advice to a range of clients regarding their use of technology as a business. I’ve registered as a Supplier, but I’m not getting any Clients approach me

The site is being advertised to Clients through a number of media and client search / enquiry volumes are shown on the Directory home page. With a significant number of Suppliers within the Directory, not everybody will receive enquiries with significant frequency. Critical to the success of this service for a Supplier are the following questions:

  • Is my profile up to date? Ensuring all aspects of your profile are accurately representative of your company capabilities is key to driving clients to your profile. Of specific note is being clear on target industry, and number of clients in that industry, to ensure your Client preferences are listed to be matched with prospective buyers.
  • Are my skills and capabilities relevant to the market place? The Directory site shows the top search listings by Client, and your offerings may not be relevant to the current Clients search criteria. Embedded are tracking these market trends and are happy to discuss strategy with Suppliers who are looking to hone their marketing or product proposition.
